The Role of Clearinghouses in the ICD-10 Transition

Practices preparing for the October 1, 2014, ICD-10 deadline are looking for resources and organizations that can help them make a smooth transition. It is important to know that while clearinghouses can help, they cannot provide the same level of support for the ICD-10 transition as they did for the Version 5010 upgrade.

Health Care Reform 2014 Marks a New Era

Health care reform is in full-swing with the heftiest legislation set for 2014 — when health insurance will become available to millions of Americans who were previously uninsured. Starting January 1, 2014, most Americans will be required to have health insurance and many businesses will be required to offer coverage to their employees. In addition, health insurance exchanges (Covered California) will be available to facilitate access to coverage.

Public Health Alert: Routine HIV Screening

Did you know that Riverside County has the fifth highest number of HIV cases and sixth highest number of AIDS cases of any county in California? As of December 2011 there were 4,743 reported cases of HIV or AIDS in Riverside County. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also estimates that nearly 1 in 5 people with HIV do not even know that they are infected. For Riverside County this means nearly 1,266 HIV infected individuals are unaware that they are infected, do not receive life extending medical care and can pass the virus on to others.
